Motivated by the recent surge of interestm in blockchain adoption across industries, this paper has theoretically examined the potential advantages andmajor barriers to blockchain adoption in the agri-food sector. Recent research and pilot studies suggest that blockchain may promote agri-food sustainability, however blockchain adoption is still in its infancy and further studies are needed to accurately assess the advantages and limitations of using lockchain-based technologies in the agri-food sector.
