Galen’s How to detect malingerers and the Latin translation by Niccolò da Reggio · In the 14th century Galen’s Quomodo morbum simulantes sint deprehendendi, an extract from the Ga- lenic Commentary on Epidemics ii, was translated into Latin by Niccolò da Reggio. This article provides the first study of Niccolò’s translation, examining its manuscript tradition and at- tempting to retrace its Greek sources. It emerged that the ms. Vat. gr. 283 (R), which had been already linked to other Galenic and ps.-Galenic translations made by Niccolò, was the source for this translation (Nα). The translation was then revised (Nβ), as a number of variants attest, on the basis of a lost Greek manuscript, belonging to the so-called π family.
