Background Cochrane recommends using the QUADAS‐2 tool, published in 2011, to evaluate the risk of bias and applicability of test accuracy studies. The publication reporting QUADAS-2 has been cited over 8000 times and is the main tool used to assess risk of bias and applicability of studies included in diagnostic test accuracy (DTA) reviews. Although feedback on the tool is generally positive, some signaling questions have been identified as problematic. There are also some areas where the format of the tool could be improved based on features included in more recently developed tools. We are currently in the process of developing QUADAS-3 and have a draft version ready for piloting. Objectives To introduce the QUADAS-3 tool and provide the opportunity to pilot and feedback on the new tool Description This workshop will provide a brief overview of the content and structure of QUADAS-3. We will highlight changes made to the tool in terms of the structure and content of the tool. Activities/interaction plans You will be supported by the workshop facilitators to work through a QUADAS-3 assessment of an example DTA study. We will split participants into smaller groups, and each group will assess the example study according to one or two of the QUADAS-3 domains. We will then regroup to feedback the results of the assessment and experience of using the tool to the wider group. We will agree on suggestions for improvements to the tool among the group. Relevance and importance to the public This workshop is not directly relevant to the public. Appropriate use of the QUADAS-3 tool in systematic reviews will lead to more appropriate recommendations for the use of diagnostic tests.
