The construct of emotion dysregulation has been especially useful to explain how and when adverse relational events lead to psychopathological outcomes. This chapter summarizes current empirical and theoretical knowledge regarding the role of emotion (dys)regulation in the pathways linking emotional and physical abuse to psychopathology addressing the role of attachment, neurobiological variables, dissociation and focusing on several relevant mental disorders.
