AIM OF THE WORK. This prospective study aimed to evaiuate hard-tissues response to immediately loaded post-extractive implants using platform switching concept. MATERIALS AND METHODS. In 10 patients selected for single-tooth replacement in anterior maxilla 10 implants (Global®, Sweden & Martina, Italy), 5.5 mm platform diameter, were placed immediately after extraction. If present, jumping distance was filled using Bio-Oss Collagen® (Geistlich, Switzerland). Immediately after insertion, implants were connected with a 3.8 mm diameter abutment. A temporary restoration crown was adapted eliminating occlusal contacts. Final restorations were applied two months later. Radiographic measures were taken by an independent examiner when implant was placed (baseline), when final restoration was adapted and every six months thereafter. Radiographic bone loss on mesial and distal implant side were evaluated using an image analysis software. Mean follow-up lasted 20 months. RESULTS. All 10 implants resulted clinically integrated with bone tissue. X-rays analysis showed a bone resorption of 0.329 mm (SD=0.156). CONCLUSIONS. This study suggests that immediate loading with subsequent platform switching can provide peri-implant hard tissue stability.

Abstract

AIM OF THE WORK. This prospective study aimed to evaiuate hard-tissues response to immediately loaded post-extractive implants using platform switching concept. MATERIALS AND METHODS. All 10 implants resulted clinically integrated with bone tissue. X-rays analysis showed a bone resorption of 0.329 mm (SD=0.156). CONCLUSIONS. This study suggests that immediate loading with subsequent platform switching can provide peri-implant hard tissue stability.
