The timeliness of the intervention requires to use of easy, immediate and effective devices and intraosseous access is undoubtedly a primary choice in critical situations, in which the time to detect venous access is extremely reduced. The scientific societies that deal with emergencies such as the American Heart Association (AHA), the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR), the European Resuscitation Council (ERC), the Infusion Nursing Society (INS), the American Association Critical-Care-Nursing (AACN), acknowledged that intraosseous access offers a significant benefit to patients in emergency situations. Its effectiveness is in fact determined by the rapidity of the detection of the vascular access and by the consequent timeliness of administration of liquids and drugs necessary for a successful intervention. However, the lack of adequate training and the necessary material, the perception of pain associated with the procedure and the perceived invasiveness seem to dissuade nurses from positioning the intraosseous access.
