In Xenophon of Ephesus’ Anthia and Habrocomes (1st – 2nd centuries AD) two episodes address medical topics that are most controversial nowadays: assisted suicide and malinger-ing. This article provides an analysis of both episodes of this Greek novel aiming to reconstruct the ancient views on these subjects and better understand their cultural past.

Abstract

In Xenophon of Ephesus’ Anthia and Habrocomes (1st – 2nd centuries AD) two episodes address medical topics that are most controversial nowadays: assisted suicide and malinger-ing.
