This study aims to provide a sociological contribution to the promotion of Gender Medicine (GM) as an agent of awareness-raising towards an equitably distributed health, without gender discrimination. This process is realised through the analysis of the multiple components of GM that regulate its impact on health, distributed in different spheres of the scientific, social and human. In this direction, the study, through an interdisciplinary approach, outlines an overview of the determinants on which the medical, health and institutional worlds are called upon to collaborate in order to overcome the persistent gender inequalities in the world of health: the ‘Gender Determinants of Health’. Starting from a reflection on the assumptions and the construct of the GM on the basis of the social determinants of health, the work indicates a theoretical way forward, arriving at a proposed framework of the determinants of the GM.
