Plasma levels of testosterone, gonadotropins and prolactin, before and after CDP-choline administration (1 g/day for two weeks), have been determined in 21 subjects, 10 of which were normal, 9 were impotent and 2 had hypogonadotropic hypogonadism. The same study has been performed in six impotent patients treated with placebo. In impotent subjects, an increase of libido and sexual potency and a progressive, significant increase of plasma level of testosterone were found. A decrease of FSH and no LH or prolactin modifications have been observed. On the other hand, no modification has been observed in patients treated with placebo. The central dopaminergic regulatory effect of CDP-choline is underlined in the discussion of these results.
